Politics (written years ago...)

So the squirrels win again,

their frenzied perseverance

not to be mistaken for play,

a testimony to genius.

Who can blame their acts

of destruction when survival

hangs just out of reach.

Crows and squirrels compete

and this day agree to share,

at least until they are full,

the windfall--strewn and half-

buried in the snowy deer path.

Handily, the squirrels

disassemble my barriers and

thwart my misguided intentions

to only feed the songbirds.
